oil in at stator and flywheel and air leak

i just replaced the starter on the trailblazer and notice that there is oil laying in where the stator, flywheel and starter is located.i'm in the process of going ahead and changing the crank seals cause it has a air leak somewhere that is causing it to "desiel" which meaning will get so hot in the cylinder that it will rev really high and shutting the switch off want kill it.you have to stick your hand over the hole in the filter box to kill it.also going ahead and replacing the oring seal for the intake.so if anybody has any input on where the oil is coming from in there, how to fix it and what also maybe to look at for the air leak,i would be more then happy to hear about it.thanx
