new to me 03 trailblazer

Picking up an 03 trail blazer within the week. I have givin it a good pre purchace inspection, but want to know what I should be looking at and checking/changing when it gets home. I plan on a new AF, clean the carb, oil injector block off has been done. I would like to change any fluids cause I am sure its never been done, but what else do I need to be looking at?

I have been to Ritter cycle and found what I want from him, can't wait to geet that in. Another question is can I use "Blendzal" in my pre mix or should I stick with polaris brand oil? Looks like a 45-1 premix is a good blend, right?

Belts, any suggestions? a plan on changing it and having one for a back up.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase.

In addition to what you already listed, I would put a new spark plug in, and have a spare or two on the machine with you.

I would consider changing the brake fluid, as it will absorb moisture over time. Should also change the gearcase oil with Polaris AGL plus fluid.

Check your brake pad thickness, grease the chassis with a premium grease. Check for any shot bushings while you do that.

Any quality two stroke oil will be fine. Biggest thing is pick a brand and stick with it. Don't be switching brands every time.

45 to 1 is on the lean side, but it'll probably be fine. The general rule is when in doubt, run 32-1 ratio. I'm not sure what the oil injection would have ran. It may have been a 45-1 average.

Almost always your best bet for belts is OEM. Aftermarket belts tend to wear faster, and cause harder shifting and sometimes the machine will creep with no throttle applied.

Well I decided to go get it tonight. Not so bad so far, it was dark and not much better in the shop so we'll see more tomarrow. So far I see that the left rear lug nuts were allowed to get loose at some point in time cause the holes are ovaled out and he ran larger bolts and flat nuts and washers installed. I will get the correct studs and nuts ordered tonight.

I plan on getting some AGL fluid ordered, and plan on running blendzall oil in the bike. I did some reading and see most recommend running 50-1 on there mix thats how I came up with 45-1. Stock belt it is and more plugs is a given.

The rear break dosn't seem to work very well and not alot of pressure at the pedal. Not real sure where to go there but I'll start with changing the fluid.

How did this turn out for you? I just picked up a new to me 03 250 as well. Seems rear brakes are an issue on this bike. I'm trying to find a rebuild kit for the rear master cylinder... either that or new @ about $100. I have to deal with new starter issue and no reverse. It runs well, but needs some work... but for $450... I'm not fussin'!

My brother has an 03 that the rear brake is weak. Might just be the design.

The OP's machine must been converted to premix, because my brother's is oil injected.

I just picked up an 04 for my son. As you guys have said above it has no foot brake either. Not going to worry about it though. I prefer the lever anyway as it does both front and rear. My sportsman's foot brake don't work either.

We have 3 trail blazers and run 32:1 premix with Polaris Gold oil in them. Never fouled plugs and never any problems.

Oreilly Auto sells the NGK BR8ES plugs and also buy yourself a ratio rite cup at a motorcycle store or ebay.

A clutch spring on that 250 will bring it alive as well (20-30$) from Ritter Cycle. Talk to Rick and tell him you want the clutch spring that comes with the HPD Trail pipe kit he sells.

Also, there is a restriction from the factory that is inside the air box lid's snorkel. Remove that...

I love the UNI air filters as well. about $20 on amazon with free prime shipping .

They are great bikes, have a blast!

Highlifter HD Springs all around, Moose pregressors on front (not activated). EPI 'patv1' primary clutch spring, UNI air filter w/ PJ-1 oil. K&N Model KN-303 oil filters. Bikemaster foam grips.

My ATV-GURU bumpers ARE FOR SALE, front and rear, BRAND NEW. Me a reasonable offer and they are YOURS.

(As you probably already know, they are currently unavailable from TheAtvSuperstore.com /ATV-Guru for an undisclosed amount of time).

Wow, didn't know all those little tricks. I will have to tell my brother about them. Thanks!
