polaris trailblazer 250 top end rebuild

Hello everyone,
i have 2006 TB, that needs new piston. It has a big hole on top side. Now, because of that i have to take bottom end apart coz lots of small chunks of metal got there. Im just trying to find out why that happened to me. I just bought this bike for pretty good price and rode it for about 2 hours. Any ideas? When i do rebuild, anything special i need to know on it? I have rebuilt top end on my YZ125 2 stoke before, this one is pretty close. Anything helps, Thank you all.

Couple suggestions-
When breaking in the piston make sure you put oil in the gas as well as the oil injection.

and if you you said you blew a hole in the piston check the oil pump on it cause i am currently having a lot of trouble with mine
