Gorilla axles or rhino axles or if you can find some 09s cheap thy are better

Thanks! I guess I will see how it goes until my warranty runs out.

Do you know if this issue is just with the front axles? What about the rear?

From what i read its the fronts only the 11and 12 s have front axles 1/2 the size as a 09 or 10 does the price went up but the quality went down i would say the 09s seem to be the best

Got my bike back yesterday. I talked to the dealer about the size of the CV joints being so small compared to the 09/10's. They said the part numbers for the 09's have been superceded to the same axle as a 2012. That means I'll have to find somebody parting out an 09/10 or buy aftermarket. I drove 40 miles worth of trails yesterday with no problem; no mud.

The dealer admitted there was a problem with the axles. They told me they had to change axles 6 times on the front of a brand new 850 before they got a good set of axles. They said the supplier for the axles made the balls in the CV joint 1 mm to small. Also said there was no way to pinpoint which axles were bad or good. They had one new axle in stock and pulled an axle out of a brand new machine off the showroom so they could get me running for my ride on Friday. That was extremely nice of them.

The dealer told me that I might have to be more careful with this new bike when I get in deep mud or towing. Really!? I told them that I was not going to ride a bike or be afraid of my bike breaking down. If it happens again I'm going to go aftermarket or the original 09's. If there is a 3rd time; it is gone and I gues I will rethink Polaris. Other than this problem I really love this bike. Eventhough I bought the extended warranty, I don't want to have to keep dealing with this issue

Sorry to Rant.

Does anybody out there know of any after market axles that would be better than the stock axles?
My power steering on my 2012 550xp does the same damn thing. When I was stuck and broke my axles it was about the same thing too. nothing crazy, just sandy crap. There is no way that I can keep this bike if this keeps happening. It's almost embarrasing to tell my coworkers that it is broke already. The list of problems that I went in with would cost at least a grand to fix plus labour. I am sure the brake problems are gonna log them 2-3 hours of shop time( they charge 100 bucks an hour).

Question? I got to thinking about your suggestion about the 2009 axles. What about the front hubs? It looks to me like there is not enough room for a larger CV axle. Do you know anything about that? Aren't the '09 CV joints actually larger in diameter? Did I understand that right?

Ok just looked it up from 09 to 12 550 and 850 all you the same front hub so a 09 axles should fit

Thanks for the info. I'm going riding again Friday; going for some mud. I hope the factory axles hold up.

BTW, have you done the axle swap on your bike. What are you using?

I broke my rear axle in my 2009 polaris 550 XP. I guess on the websites they call it the rear drive shaft. I know that rhino axles are the best but does anyone know the cheapest place to get them? Or maybe a cheaper axle?
