How to set idle 2010 550xp??

My brother inlaw just bought a new sportsman 550xp sportsman...he's complaing about the idle being too high and its too hard to shift into gear...should he wait and break it in or take it back? Is there any idle adjustments maybe we can back it down...its running about 1850 in park...and i think its affecting the shifting...its hard to put into gear?? any sugguestions...?? Thanks Muddie49

is the thumb throttle adjusted right? there should be just a little bit of play in the throttle you may have it set too tight... other then that it's all computer controlled. if the trottle cable is set right and it's still high and under warrenty take it in.

I picked up my 2010 550xp two weeks ago and it seems to shift out of park and into the other gears a little easier the more I use it.

The spark plug issue is a new one for me. My dealer never mentioned it. I start it up and let it run for a few seconds to let the oil circulate and them take off!!

My 09 550 XP idles around 1650 rpm, I called the dealer about how rough it idled, they said that the newer models will have a higher idle ( around 1830 rpm)to make it smoother and if I wanted they can program the 09 XP.
The reprogram only makes the idle smoother and does nothing for performance. So I left mine as is. The adjustment on the thumb throttle is to take the lash out of the cable.

sounds like your dealer has some tards working there. the only reason they would bump up the idle is to get more power out of the stator. 1650 sounds too high i'm amazed you can get it out of gear.

Mine Idles at around 1750 after it has been running for a while, the owners guide says 1800 for the first few minutes of operation and then 1750 +/- 50 So I doesnt sound like the idle is a problem

I think I saw it in the owners manual or maybe on the DVD but they said that Polaris set the idle high for a period of time and that it would adjust automatically after it was ridden awhile.
