2010 850xp Engine Noise
New to the site and was hoping for some input.
A few days ago I made the move from Bombardier to Polaris.
I love the machine but am worried about the way the engine sounds.
Almost sounds like loose lifters at an idle then at higher R's has that faint sound you hear with worn crank bearings.
Then when you shut it down there's a rattle in the engine.
The dealer says these are normal noises with the 850's, Does anyone else hear these noises with your machines?
Thanks

I got some noise at lower speeds that sounds like valves chattering. Ask the dealer about it and said it was normal and others do it. 4 valves per cylinder.

Thanks cv
I've even went and looked up videos of these and did notice they all seem to have that issue.
Pretty annoying but hopefully I'll get used to it, Maybe an aftermarket exhaust can drown it out.
And if it does end up being an issue I guess I'll just deal with it then, I did grab the 5 yr extended warranty, Hopefully they wont give me the runaround if it becomes necessary.

I've to ask, R U sure it's coming from the engine? I've a similar noise, and when listening with a long screwdriver I located it to the tranny. When I shut the engine off I can here the same rattle. When revving it up to about 1800rpm's the noise is compleatly gone! Could it be the flexplate?

IMO, my 2011 is the quitest polaris i've ever owned. It has the usual cluck in driveline that there famous for. When I bought my frist polaris in 01, I thought it was gonna blow up or break everytime I rode it. I have 9000 miles on that 01 500 ho and never have done anything but chane oil and put gas in it. Changed belt twice. I have 700 miles on 850 and I think it is almost to quite fo the power they create.
