To all xp owners

after reading about suspension problems on the xp for over a year it is now my turn. have read about wheelbearings, tie rod ends, control arm bushings and ball joints worn with less than a 1k miles, some a lot less. with 540 miles my left rear wheel bearing and control arm bushings are loose and i am replacing them. i have been checking my quad over every 100 miles,100 miles ago they where not loose. when i pressed out the bearing today at work guess what? made in china on the end! not all will have problems, but i would advise checking yours if you have the ability or have a powersports tech check at least every 4 or 500 miles.

i checked with bearing companys today to try and find a cross to a usa or german bearing so i would not have to put another china crap one back in and no luck. polaris has a new design control arm bushing and of course they are on backorder!

Look's like something else to look out for. I wonder if all the manufacturer's are skimping on quality like that? I'm sure with a 10k asking price for these machines maybe quality bearings and bushings could be used.

Checked mine over, 500 miles & ALOT of mud/rocks/logs, everything still tight. Did have to replace the front brake pads at 200m but the replacements are like new with 300m on them. I hope since its a late build 2010 it has all updated parts, will update if I find any issues. Hope to see you next week Steve!

I wonder if this is prone to guys running AFTERMARKET rims with out of spec OFFSETS, OEM run near ZERO offset, aftermarkets makes an "XP" 4"-5" wider thus putting a lot of exessive STRESS on bearings and bushings, you should start a poll on this to see who's having problems with type of set-up, milage, riding style, TIRE SIZE, rim style & offset etc...

i have talked to enough guys with 09 and 2010 xp and running stock tires and wheels that have had worn parts with under 1k to say it is not just the guys running aftermarket tires and wheels that are having problems.
hope to see you at the meeting next week ken.

I have a 2009 550 XP that I purchased in late April of 2009. The ECM went oiut at 20 miles. The fornt A-arm bushings were wron out at 102 miles. Now, at 700 miles the rears are worn out. And last, but not least, I have had an issue with the power steering since July..the P/S became hard at times..almost like the unit had no P/S, the electric motor vibrates hard enugh hat it can be felt in the handlebars. I took it to 3 dealers..each technician felt the vibrations..said it was normal..even when I asked them to compare mine to new units that didn't have ther vibration mine had. All felt their units and still said it was normal. I tried to go through cuystomer service for some help...what a joke they are.. I became frustrated and let it go for a while. I finally took it to a dealer 60 miles from my home and within 30 seconds...literally... their technician said it wasn't right. The P/S motor needs replacing. This dealer has been great and contacted Polaris and they have agreed to supply a new motor, as the issue was documented 3 times under warranty, but I am responsible for the labor. Don't get me wrong, I am greatly relieved that this dealer actually has a competent technician that immediately agreed that it was not right and that Polaris is supplying the motor. However, I still feel that Polaris should cover the labor too. This problem was well documented while it was under warranty. I have called Polaris customer service twice about this issue..and again what a waste of time. I have a letter waiting to be mailed to Polaris, but I am not sure which department to send it to. I have viewed their website and there are several persons listed for various areas of their corporate ladder. Anyone have any suggestioins???

their are a lot of grease fittings on the front and rear of these things. on my 550 everytime i got mine real muddy after i cleaned it up i always greased it. if not i noticed the suspension would sqeak. i figure that would help on the life of the bushings. my 550 got recalled and with 300 miles had to have the left side ball joints replaced when they did the recall work.

thanks for the heads up. i'm going to watch mine like a hawk.
