2010 550XP with Oven!!!
After about 20 miles of forest trails today, I stopped for a little refreshment along the trail. As I stretched my legs my attention went to the back of my quad and the storage box. It's a nice little space to carry a few of the small items you might need on the trail and for some reason I opened mine up.
It was quite surprising to note the interior temperature of the storage box was frighteningly hot! Now it was a pretty nice day here in Minnesota and the temps never got above 75. It was only 68 at the time I noticed the issue.
As I dug a few items out of the box they were very hard to handle due to the heat. The tool kit, my gloves and my tow sling were cooking like a Thanksgiving Turkey in there. Most disturbing was that my CO2 tire repair kit was also in there. 4 - 8oz cylinders! So I found a new place to carry them.
Has anyone else noticed this? Since the muffler is directly below, it's obvious where the heat comes from. Strange that some type of heat shield isn't in place to protect it.

I noticed the samething, I keep my registration and insurance in there, when I pulled it out the corner of the siplock back that I keep it in was melted and burned. I figure a cornish hen takes three hours at 30mph make sure to rotate the bird every 6miles

Put a little water in there and you'll be able to steam the hot dogs & buns! Scrumptious!

Id maybe try taking the box off and putting some foil heat tape on the bottom to sheild it from the heat. It would have to help a little.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a roll of foil tape that would probably stick very well. That thin honeycomb insulation with foil on both sides? I wonder if they make that with an adhesive backing? It might be a big improvement.
First I'm going to have to wash and clean it. Usually that's something I only do in the Fall of the year.

No need to stop and rotate the bird every 6 miles, just hit the right bump/jump!
And for those of you makin hot dogs, I'll carry the chili and cheese in mine! I'll be sure to keep it in a seal tight tupperware...
Heck, just through some popcorn seeds in there while we at it! hehehehe
