Info about Sportsman XP Recalls? Need info for an engineering project!
Hey Everyone!
I am a student at Penn State studying mechanical engineering. I am taking an engineering class this summer for my major and I need to write a paper about a topic that has to do with my future career field. I need to find a product that was engineered and contained flaws and describe how the product was repaired and what was done to make the product better so it would not fail again. For example a civil engineer in my class is finding a bridge that had failed an engineering code and writing his paper on how the bridge was altered to meet the code.
I was interested in the 2009 - 2010 Sportsman XP recalls dealing with...
Polaris Industries Recalls ATVs Due to Fire Hazard: The valve assembly can fail in freezing temperatures, causing oil to leak into the exhaust system. This could pose a fire and burn hazard to the rider.
Polaris Industries Recalls Certain ATVs Due to Crash Hazard: The front suspension ball joint stem can separate from the steering knuckle and cause the rider to lose control, posing a risk of injury or death to riders
I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on what was done to fix the flaws with these ATVs. I would also be interested in getting pictures of the failed parts to include with my project if possible.

I would go to a local Polaris dealer and ask them. They may still have some recalled parts.
