New 550XP EPS What Tires should I go with

Just picked up my new 2010 550 EPS and am wondering the best tires. Live in upstate NY so if you know anything about Upstate, the weather can really suck and be unpredictable. Was looking at ITP 589's but was not sure if their the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Will be Trail Riding, with mud and dust in the woods. Probably climbing some decent inclines also just for some background. Thanks guys.

Thanks guys for the info so far, I was looking at those, they look pretty good also. Price is not bad either, then again I am not really worried about how much they cost as long as they perform.

If you are more the trail rider then you want to stay clear of any mud tires ie Zillas, Mudlites, etc. They will bury you in the snow. The 589's received a good rating all around. The BigHorns also received an awesome rating for all around. I had purchased a set of the BigHorns but changed my mind after they were back ordered forever and went with a diff tire, but they had a bike with them on it on the floor and it's a mean tire. Google "______" tire reviews and plenty will come up to help you better form an opinion. Also, I think SNW629 might still have some Horns for sale. Bighorns and zillas

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

forget the 589 as a trail tire very stiff ride. the horns are a great trail tire as long as the mud is not to deep. the xtr are a great trail tire but on the heavy side for a 550 you may not like the power loss. a radial will give the best ride. a tire you do not here a lot about that mite do real good on the 550xp is the maxxis mud bug radial, not real heavy. i still have horns for sale if you like them.

I've run the following:

27" Zilla's- Great for just all out mud, ride good, not so great on rocks or roots.

28" Swamplites - Great trail and all around tire, the name is misleading as they are not so great in the mud but very good in rocks roots, snow, hard pack etc...

27" Sparacus, really good all round tire, good ride, good in the mud, sand, rocks creeks, etc... 8 ply radial, little heavier than the others but worth it IMHO.

I had the 27" mudlite XTR's on my 05 700 and lost a lot of low end due to their weight. I switched to the 27" maxxis zillas and love them. I got back my power lost. they handle good and are even lighter than the 26" mud lites. the two down sides are 1. they run alittle short 2. now I want another set for my other machine lol.

I live in South Louisiana so I have no snow or rock's to contend with. I went with the Mudlite XTR's because they fit my riding need's to a "T".
