Useless
I like this site and give all the credit in the world to the folks who own, operate, and police it.
Having said that, I find it very useless to come here with a mechanical question, unless it's something very simple.
Why is that? Dosen't anyone work on their own stuff anymore? Are most of the users to young to even know what a wrench is?
I dont get it and it's very frustrating.
I've given priceless info especially about transmissions which took me a lot of hours of research, and lots of trial and error, and shared it with anyone who emails me or asks or seems to be having issues with their transmission. I've even given my number out to quite a few and walked them thru the process of rebuilding it.
I dont think I'll be doing much of that anymore.
Sorry to be an a$$, Im just very frustrated and dissappointed in this site

are you having a problem with your ride? if you give me a link to your original post I will see what I can do. despite what you may think there are a lot of people who still work on our own rides. People are busy, and whining about not getting your answer quick enough from people who are not paid to answer it is not cool. This is a forum not the doctors office, otherwise we would send you a bill for $200 for your visit.
BTW... I am not affiliated with this site, I am just someone who likes to help out other as much as I can...

I know about older 4 strokes such as the 95-98 425Magnums,Sportsman400 and 500's. I don't know alot about electrical and engine repair. I have had a issue with a 425 magnum over a year now. It fires when you let of the start button. Before replacing stator I had no spark. The stator was rusted up bad. The stator is new and I have changed CDI,coil and spark plug wire. This atv has set up now for about 4 years. I posted a thread about it and blueline15 was the only person to offer any help. A few weeks ago I bought another 425 Magnum and thru trial and error I will fit it. I just need to wait until deer archery season goes out at the end of the month and some warmer weather. I try to help everyone I can. I just don't know alot about the EFI machines and 2 strokes. One thing that alot of people on here do is post a problem they are having but fail to tell the year model, carb or efi,2wd or 4wd and size of atv.
Thanks for reading.

I come here to talk about riding my XP and to find riding spots and buddies. I am here to share my experiences, look at others machines and videos and to participate in the greater Polaris community, not to discuss how to unplug a carb, troubleshoot an engine knock or answer questions like "does it hurt my machine to use it as a submarine". Frankly, most of the "how do I" posts have become rather monotonous as it has probably been covered before if the poster would use the search function provided on the site.
With that said I do have considerable mechanical and electronic and electrical ability, but it is extremely difficult to troubleshoot another machine over the internet. So, unless I have some specific knowledge I usually butt out of these posts. I am not a Polaris mechanic, but have been building and racing motorcycles since 1970. I also have built and assembled a number of street machines and hot rods. The latest is my hangar queen 1964 Corvette.
I don't want to sound like an arse or offend anyone either - just my opinions.

bb66, I don't know what the issue was, but there are several guys on this forum that really know their stuff and spend many hours helping others with concrete solutions. Blueline sent me diagrams to fix my ETC & Cookies has assembled many repair manuals which he freely shares. I could go on and on...I don't know why you didn't get the help you needed but a little tactfulness and patience will help you more than insulting these guys that have probably given hundreds of free hours of help (to people they don't even know) over the years.

With todays ever changing high technology it's hard to find a school trained mechanic to do a fix correctly. I've read about plenty of dealers on this site that are not up to snuff, yet you want the advise of a shade tree mechanic.
I am sure that everybody on this site is really thankful for the help that you offer, it's just that your problem is over our heads, seeing as how you also are having a problem with it.
We don't gang up and say lets not help this guy or that guy.
I hope you find a solution to your problem quickly.

There are two basic types on this site. Those that like to tinker--get used/older bikes, like to spend two hours saving $30 and enjoy the process of putzing around on their own machines. It is fun reading their adventures, successes and failures. Some of these people really dive deep into the innards of their machines doing major mechanical work. This group makes up about 20% of the readership. Most of the rest just like the fun and adventure of the ride, want a good working machine--buy new or late models and pay for professionals to do all but routine maintenance. Many of these types will install bolt-on mods or tackle a wench install but that is about it. So technical/major mechanical "free" advice is harder to come by. I hope you kind the group that is into your level of interest.
