Electrical problem with 2011 Sportman 550

Machine is randomly pumping out up to 18 volts and battery light comes on. Then goes off. Sometimes will go for days when it stays around 12 volts. Machine starts and runs good. Any suggestions of what the problem may be?

Sounds like a bad connection. Here's a thread for a similar issue a while back.

If your connections check out, I'd look at replacing the regulator/rectifier. New ones from Electrosport are $100. Buy New Regulator/Rectifier Polaris Sportsman 550/850 - 4012678 Sportsman XP 550 (10-12)
