Struts only or the whole assembly, 2004 sportsman 500

Yay or nay on replacing the coil springs as well as the struts? I just redid most of the front suspension with the exception of the shocks. Just wondering if I really need the springs too or just to replace the struts. Big cost dif for the full monty.

OK then. Let's try another question. My 2004 Sportsman 500 HO model number lists the strut as OEM PN 7041761. I had thought to replace them with Bronco gas shocks, PN AU 04400. Bronco does not list a strut for this model but the AU 04400 is listed as a replacement for the OEM number. Has anyone used this strut on a 2004 Sportsman 500 HO?

I have no experience with the cheap gas shocks but I'd prefer the OEM's myself. The front springs do get fatigued and sag a little with age sometimes and especially if used to plow or carry a lot of weight.
I know it sounds like I'm trying to make a sale but I think I have a set of new OEM shocks and springs at the shop the were ordered and never got used. I'd let them go at a reasonable price if you're interested. I'll have to look this afternoon to see if I still have them.

Thanks polman500. I appreciate that. It's never been used for a plow. We don't get that much snow. With he shape the rest of the front end was in, I would imagine it was all original equipment it came with.

Ok jl, I do have a set of new hydraulic shocks to fit your machine but they aren't OEM. They are Kimpex 100579 which is compatible with the Polaris OEM 7041761 struts you have now.
They list for $150 a set on ebay. Here's a link so you can check them out.
New OEM's list for $122 each plus shipping on Partzilla.
If you want them for $125 plus shipping just PM me and we'll discuss payment details.

Do you prefer/recommend hydraulic or gas?

The OEM's are hydraulic. I have no experience with gas struts so I really don't know the differences. Maybe someone who has used them will comment?
