Tired Tires :D

Guys/Gals,

I am a bit of a noob when it comes to tires. I understand the sizes but the 2016 Polaris Sportsman Touring 850SP has some strange sized tires....

Looks like the are CST WildThang CU06, 26-10-14 on the rear (fronts I have to run out to get sizes). These are the OEM tires - I have has 3 flats so far from punctures. The funny thing, is CST will not sell that size - it seems custom to be ordered only through Polaris.

So here we go:

I want to change tires to something I can get. I am looking at Bear Claw HTR but not sure what size to get.

I don't want to:
Lose Ground Clearance
Change Wheels/Rims
Stress Powertrain/Belt.

Can you help me with a size and if the Bear Claws would be OK?

Oh here's the latest to come out of my tire: (seriously- Oh an I know no tier would prevent that)

I'd go with the Kenda BearClaw HTR's in....

Front: 26-9-12
Rear: 26-11-12

These will be more resistant to puncture, as they are an 8-ply radial vs. the factory at 4-ply bias.... not to mention better traction (10x the tire IMHO)!!

With the luck you have I would invest in 4 magnets and hang them in front of the tires to attract that foreign debris..........

where the hell are you riding that you're finding stuff like that with your tires? Maybe stick to commonly ridden areas from now on...

26" is stock diameter, but your machine should be fine up to 28" assuming the touring can fit them in the back. the passenger foot rest supports may be in issue.

The 28" tires will give you better side wall and help prevent pinch flats. You will also be able to run them at a lower PSI for the same reason.

If you feel the 28" tires are sucking some of the power, a clutch kit is a great option.

IMPO, After market tires, and a clutch kit are by far the best bang for your buck performance upgrades that can be made to any ATV.

Thanks Thor - I agree. Tires and clutch kit. I am shopping around and the Bear Claws are at top of list.

As far as riding, here in El Paso, we have desert riding- a lot of open areas that can ridden on. Unfortunately people are nasty. They don't care about the environment, and its common to see trash and debris everywhere. We have clean up volunteers but its impossible. What looks like clean fresh sand, very well may have trash under it as you are powering through- the Dunes and the desert trails change from the wind everyday- so sand hides much in a short period of time.

I don't like riding here, (or living here actually) but its home for now. Up north about 2 hours we have CloudCroft, NM that looks beautiful and green- regular style trails. Hope to hit that soon.

Ok All- Need advice. My OEM tire size is 26-10-14, and 26-8-14 (2016 Polaris Sportsman Touring 850SP)
Initially I opted to stay with 26, so I was looking at 26-11-14 & 26-9-14 as per recommendation above. After discussing with Rocky Mountain ATV the Bear claws do not come in 14"......

SO what are you guys/gals running that is a similar quality/riding conditions tire to the Bear Claw on the SP (14") wheels. I really don't want to change wheels......
