One month into ownership...

...I've been able to put 7 miles on my new Sportsman 850 and it has spent the last 3 weeks in the dealership with an expected additional month.

Apparently they are waiting on the replacement side panel/heat shield. Offered to let me pick it up as long as I sign off on the fact that continuing to ride it posed a fire hazard and I could get burned.

First and last Polaris purchase for me. Next time I'll look at Can Am.

That's a bummer. I'd pick it up and ride - but that's me. That way you don't waste a month not riding, wasting your warranty.

I would blame the dealer for not having the part on hand before taking the atv.

It's supposed to be the new design to address the heat issue, which is backordered. It was Polaris' warranty response. I'm skeptical.

Sorry man, it sucks that your machine is just sitting. I hope they dealership has talked about extending your warranty since you can't ride it.

Not actually that uncommon and not just Polaris.....Got a SAFETY recall notice for the wife's car in the mail. Said there was a recall on the car but the parts were not available. Dealership would call me when the parts were in. A couple months later, I called them about a second recall notice and that's when they said they could do that one and the previous one too.

Frequently enough, the engineers come up with what they hope is a solution and the company publicizes the news but no one has talked to the part supplier about how long it will take to get the parts to the dealerships.

I bought 2 years of extended warranty so I'm not too concerned about that. It would be nice if they offered a loaner but I'm sure they'd lose their ass doing things like that. People would be driving them like they stole them.

I think the idea of letting you use it while they wait on the parts is practical but since they don't really want to take responsibility for the design issues to begin with, they probably won't cover any further heat related damage. That was the impression I was getting from service guy.

Sounds like your dealer is not working with you on that issue, he should give you something to ride in that situation.
