Late 2004 Polaris Sportsman 600 new to me.

New to polaris quads, have already learned there are a few quirks with mine. Hopefully I’ll gain some much needed knowledge from this fantastic site.

If you have the digital fuel gauge, some call it a 2004.5 I have a late model 2004 700 Sportsman and I've found you really need to be careful ordering parts. It almost seems Polaris put the 2004 body on the 2005 chassis/engine. You'll also find you need to know the model of you machine which can end in AN, AF, etc. I had found a web site to enter your serial number and derive the model number but the link escapes me at the moment.

Go HERE to onput the VIN of your Polaris and get very useful info - what it will not tell you is the build date, that was on a sticker on the vehicle which may or may not still be there. Some idiot owners peeled all the stickers off thinking they knew all the info that the stickers provided, so good luck with that.

Thanks for the info, stickers still there build date is 6/04 has about 1200 miles on it. Had it about a week and the brown wires under front rack melted. Had a hard time getting the right key for it still not convinced I resolved the issue. Time will tell. Thanks again for your help.
