New to forum, have Question on Drive Belt Vent

Hello, my name is Mike and I am up here in Freeport Maine. I am the proud owner of a 2013 Polaris Scrambler 850. I do have a question about the drive belt vent. I noticed Polaris has it vented just in front of the back storage trunk, and it is wide open. It seems that when backing up it could fill the drive belt housing with mud, or give little squirrels a place to nest. Heck, when using a hose the water will go up in the "quite wide" plastic pipe. Is there a way to close it off so this won't happen? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I guess snorkles would be your best bet. If your worried about water in there when you wash it just pull the belt drain plug after your done with the hose.
