Noobe needs advice on 1st ATV

With virtually NO SNOW in my neck of the woods for two years running, I am ready to purchase my first ATV for mountain trail riding. The USFS has just put in an extensive ATV trail system near my cabin. I don' want to go too small HP wise but not truly understanding what would be over my head I have a friend that would like to unload his 850 Sportsman for a sand machine. Is that too much for a noobe?

Quads arent like motocross bikes...hard to have too much power, esspecially with a cvt tranny lol.

Your right thumb controls how you let your ponies run, so 550, 570, 850, 1000 does much matter. If you can get a good deal on his 850 id jump on it...nobody ever regrets having more hp on a quad....but everybody hates being underpowered.

How are used quads priced? Is there a KBB-like site with values? I am familiar with snowmobiles, new and used. Quads are new territory!

Try these two sites

ATVs: New Prices, Used Values & Specs ? NADAguides and KBB,,, KBB is usually priced lower than NADA..
