1999 Sportsman 500 Rebuild

Hello everyone. Looking for some thoughts/experience with doing a rebuild on a 1999 Sportsman 500. I just bought a 1996 Sportsman for a parts bike for the 1999 and want to take the engine out of the 1996 and clean it up and put into the 1999. Thoughts are to put maybe a Wiseco big bore jug and piston on it if available, haven't looked yet and a big question I have is can you put a head and cam from an H.O. on this engine and if so, would there be an advantage in doing this. Just trying to beef a little bit a clean tight new engine.

Thanks

Sounds like a plan to me..only thing is HO has a larger carb so you should include that in your mods.

Can anyone tell me the differences in heads of an H.O. vs. non H.O. IS it strictly cam difference. Can I just use my 500 head and turn it into an H.O. performance wise? And as far as carb , going to an H.O. carb, does that mean other parts as far as hookups to the intake, or different airbox? If I could run across a parts engine or head what years H.O. will work for my 1999

Did you ever get this project completed? I am interested in doing something similar?
