I recently installed heavier/bigger tires, compared to the stock Polaris/Carlisles tires that come on the unit. I am interested in installing a clutch kit to compensate for the lag. Any recommendations as to what kit to purchase? I've been looking at EPI and QSC. The difference in price is about $40 USD, with QSC being more expensive. Can anyone help a fellow rider out?
I have run EPI on my scrambler 500 and QSC on my sportsman and am happier with the QSC on my sportsman so far as belt engagement and overall smoothness. I know its apples and oranges comparing a scrambler 500 to a sportsman 800 but I do feel like the QSC kit engages the belt a little better which hopefully will lead to longer belt life. I'd still suggest the QSC kit even though its a little more expensive.
QSC has adjustable weights so that you can tune your clutching. I would give RVS performance a call and let them know what your setup is and let them suggest the correct weights springs etc. Thats what i did after reading about their excellent customer service on here.
Thanks to @jhama78 for the help, I placed the order yesterday. And hopefully I will be able to feel a significant power increase throughout the mid-range.
So... I ordered directly from QSC, I was unaware Ryan was only a vendor. I haven't heard anything from them, are you aware if it usually takes them a long time to get product out?
If the camarms are to wide to fit into where the pivot bolt holds them I believe they are the wrong weights. How much to wide are they? A picture would be nice.
I thought the same thing as well. But the weights were weighed and they were at spec. According to QSC and Ryan the clutch housing aren't exact and sometimes need to be slightly filed for the weights to move freely.
