Hey, It seems like since the last time I rode (we rode them pretty hard through some water), I've noticed a "whining" sound from the right side of the motor. It seems like speeds up and slows down, if that makes sense, when I rev the motor in neutral. It doesn't seem like there is any loss in performance, just wondering if it is normal because I can't remember if it did it before last ride or not. Like I said, we rode them the hardest I have ever rode on mine, so maybe it is me just scared that I messed up something. Anyone have any ideas?
sounds like it could be the belt. have you pulled the drain plug on the clutch housing? see if it gets louder when you put your ear next to the open drain...
I have siliconed around my clutch housing. After the ride, I did pull the plug and there wasn't any water in there. If you are on the four wheeler with it running, it sounds like it is coming from the right side of the motor.
If it is coming from the right side, have you pulled the drain on the recoil housing? Water can get into the recoil housing on th top around the pull rope. It causes rust and can make the Bendix starter gear make noises. My 500 was rattling like crazy and it was RPM sensitive. Meaning it got louder the more gas you fed in. I pulled the cover off and there was a lot of rust and corrosion. You can find the drain on the bottom of the housing but if it were me I would pull of the recoil housing and inspect and clean it out.
recoil sounds like a good start...if not that maybe water pump...
