April 21 SNIRT Run, Tug Hill NY

All weather event, usually very well attended. Trails open a couple weeks early for the SNIRT run. See Barnes Corner's Sno Pals website for info.

If there is little snow left at that time, there will be a few thousand machines on the trails. If there is much snow there will be less, but they usually open up the roads for the event in case the trails are too bad to navigate.

Four weeks to go till the SNIRT - reports are the trails are still being groomed and the trails still have up to 3 feet of snow. This will be interesting seeing as we have a bit of a warmer week approaching, some rain in the forecast - that should knock the trails down a little.

Forecast for the next month shows night time temps below freezing so there is only so much melting that can happen with daily high temps only in the low 50's. We shall see what Mother Nature has to say about man made plans.

Just go, and you will know all you ever wanted to, about it. I went, ONCE! Enough for me. If you like crowds and stop n go ATV traffic; you are all set. And, there are at least twice the number of machines and people now compared to when I went.
It was fun, just not trail riding by my definition. You will get to see some of the dumbest (and smartest) ATV operators this planet has to offer. Sit on the sidelines and watch for the enjoyment.

Phil has some valid points. The SNIRT is usually well attended, especially in recent years with the lack of snow. Lots of snow makes people stay away. Of course there are idiots that appear whenever you have large groups of people in one place. We've seen some truly amazing things, both good and bad!

But after a long winter, the SNIRT is good fun and you meet tons of people, see some sick machines, watch people get hopelessly stuck, swamped, and sometimes yes it makes you wonder what the heck they were thinking, and find yourself surprised that they make it through some of the stuff they get themselves into.

There are usually a couple playgrounds where people congregate to watch others play in the mud, it's like a party with a couple hundred close friends. It is fun. I have done it for the past 6 years and have seen 10,000 machines on the hill, and have seen a couple hundred or a thousand other years. Like anything, the run is what you choose to make of it. If you go looking to ride alone and coast down easy trails then yeah, you might think twice. If you want to hang out and ride with people, watch people play, and enjoy a long day's riding then give it a shot. I think you will be glad you did.

I see you are from St. Lawrence county.. That county had closed all their county land to ATV's as I understand at some time back. I see now they have opened some ATV trails. You can get the trail map in the town of Canton. Franklin county now wants band ATV's for some reason??? time will tell what happens I guess. Its getting harder to find good riding in NY state

Yep..Some trails in and around Parishville now open and more coming. Franklin County is in a battle, for sure. The Town Highway Superintendants have way too much power in these matters. They get everyone fearful of liability suites.
There is a pretty good trail system open off Rt. 56 between S. Colton and Seveys Corners. It's some state easement land. Long Pond Easement, I believe it is. Haven't been there in a few years, but some decent trail riding, old logging roads every which way.
