Tire help

I realize there is endless information on this and I have read a lot of posts and peoples opinions. I think I have narrowed it down to three tires that I am choosing between. I have a 2014 Polaris sportsman 400 pretty much stock and will use it mainly for hunting and around the property.
I have 25x8-12 & 25x10-12 tire size.
The three options areadded a 4th)

-GBC Grim Reapers
- Kenda Bear Claws
- IBC Mudlites (insure which model)
- quad boss 672

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated .

They perform well even in the mud? I know they’re great on rocky terrain, but was unsure if mud.

Also not sure if 26” would put to much more wear on my machine? What’s your opinion?

If you go with any tire other than the OEM tire you will be adding weight because the tires are heavier. So you should probably add a clutch kit along with the tires anyway. The clutch kit will compensate for the added weight of the new tires and there will be no loss of performance. I have the 26" Bearclaw HTRs on the wife's 500 with a QSC clutch kit from RVS Performance. Call Ryan, explain what you are doing and he will hook you up with the right kit for your needs.

Mine: 2018 Sportsman 850SP - 26" Bear Claw HTRs on OEM steel wheels(I really don't like the Aluminum ones)

Here let me throw a 5th tire in the mix to make things even MORE complicated , Maxxis Bighorn 2.0. A riding buddy of mine ran them on his 2012 Sporty 400, he was very satisfied with them. They work great in all conditions. Now to the tires you listed Reapers are a great tire but to heavy for a 400 in my opinion. Will the machine handle them??? Absolutely!!! But just to heavy IMO. Now which BC's are you considering the HTR's or the K299's. If its the HTR's then you have considered another fine tire. Little lighter then the GR and therefore I would consider it a good fit for your wheeler and riding conditions. You can cross the BC K299 off your list if thise were the BC's you're considering. Only ITP ML's I would consider would be the XTR. Decent tire in all conditions and it's of a lighter construction being a 6-ply. I have no knowledge nor experience withe the QB line of tires.

So of these three "we" have mentioned (GBC Grim Reepers, Kenda Bearclaw HTR, and ITP Mudlite XTR) for you application they're dead even, couldn't go wrong with any of them!!!!

BUT the Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 is head and heels a better choice!!! The 2.0 can go toe to toe with the heavy weights like the Grims and Bears but it can also fly with the light weights due to the 2.0's lighter carcass!!!!!

BP405 any thoughts on the Maxi Zilla ??
XTR's are a really good tire that lasts forever but is heavy.
BH 2.0 are not considered a mud tire on any tire site, although i've never heard anything bad i'm looking for best all around tire but mud tire also for bad situations.

I like that the Reaper is #1 on your list.
Def my personal favorite and I’d never talk anyone out of it, however being that you’re on a 400, weight will be a concern as they are a true 8 ply in sidewall as well as tread so they run a little on the heavier side.
I’d figure out what the main use of your ATV is and go from there.
If you don’t have major concerns with roots and rocky rutted out trails, you may be best suited to go to a 6ply to reduce weight as ithe 8ply will pull performance.
Having said that, they in my opinion are your best choice.

They do make the Bearclaw HTR in your 25" size. Probably the best fit for your 400 without worrying about having to make other mods due to size and weight. The best all terrain tire I have run on an ATV. (also the best priced atv tires) I've run Bighorns as well. Also a great tire. Their downside is on slippery terrain, such as snow pack and icy trails. They just lack lateral grip due to the tread design. They would be 2nd on my list of the best atv tires available for all terrains.

The Zillas are definitely better in the mud and snow then any of your top tier trail tires. So if rocks (jagged and/or big and slick) aren't going to be a major obsticle in you riding terrain the Zillas will work. They are a decent trail tire and they do good at higher speeds on hard pack as well.

Thanks for the info, I called Ryan over at Rvs and he was a huge help. He recommended going with the 26” bearclaws and no need for the clutch kit. He said that the clutch that is in the 400 is very good and I really won’t gain much from one if there just. He explained to me that even though my machine is a 400 it’s actually 450cc, which makes quite a difference. I am gonna try it out and maybe get the clutch kit in the future anyways.
