Hello, I new here but have a sportsman 500 ho 4x4 non efi and have charging problems, I have tested battery with quad not running and it was reading 12.5 volts- battery is new. When I start it at idle the voltage reads 17.8 volts at the battery and that's sounds like it might be a voltage regulator problem, any help would be appreciated thank youbattery

I believe you need to replace the rec/reg before the high voltage damages the battery

Thanks, that's what I thought and I have already ordered it, on a side note the cooling fan stopped working as well.

The fan is controlled by the rec/reg - it's referred to as the Sure Power unit - part # 2203348 @ $150

Yes, in researching the problems I found the even incorporates fan operation in the ecm as well, that is the part number I looked up for it and found a new oem one in box for $149.95. I ordered it this morning
