Don't know where you got the info, but it was wrong - the 2018 Sportsman 1000 has electric power steering, but not drive by wire and the Scrambler has the exact same set-up.

Yep, the 18 Sportsman has fly-by-wire throttle.
Polaris probably needed to use up its supply of cabled throttles, cables and throttle bodies on the Scramblers. Or the designers may have thought that the sportier customers who tend to buy Scramblers would prefer cable operation??

No... come to think about it, the Sportsman 1k has the 3 mode switch for work, standard and performance modes that works in conjunction with the electronic throttle. That's the reason its not offered on the sport model Scrambler... The Scrambler is designed as a primarily play-only machine not as a dual purpose work and/or play ride.

Yeah, I run the standard setting 90% of the time but do use the work mode around the farm while fencing, feeding and things. Makes the machine really tame about like a 300 or something. I will occasionally hit the performance mode when out trail riding if I get a little frisky lol.
MegaBUD and SunShine01 like this.

OK - you got me - I took drive by wire to mean 'steer' electronically - you meant accelerate by wire

Why they are different? Because accelerate by wire is complicated and expensive - the Scrambler cost less than the Sportsman and Polaris wanted it that way.

Sorry, I'd have to disagree latebird. In Polaris ads from last year, the starting MSRP for the 2018 scrambler 1000 was substantially higher than the MSRP for the 2018 Sportsman 1000
Got no comparison for 2019 as they didn't offer the Scrambler last this year.

yup, the Scrambler 1000 has always been $1500 to $2000 more simply because the Scrambler has overpriced Fox Podium X shocks with reservoirs.
