Agreed with prior comment. Just trailer with your tailgate down. We do that all the time. Likely, the cable (?) supports on your tailgate can support the weight--and the weight is close to the bed, so much less on the outward cable tailgate holders.

Ok how about a thought out of the box so to speak. If you are not needing the tailgate how about just popping it off. They usually come off very easy. A pain in the butt to put them back on though. Lol.

Well boys, truck is sold.

LOL! taking delivery of a new 2.7L EcoBoost F150 w/ a 5.5" bed. Tailgate down is only option now. Case closed.
