I ride with a 2018 sportsman 1000s and today it was cutting out . It was warm day for Montana and we were at about 7000s feet . After It sat for a 3or 4 mi it would start and run.

Was it getting a check engine light and posting a code? You have to get the code before you turn the key off after the event happens. Hold the mode button till the "options" menu come up then go to "diagnostics", if the diagnostic screen doesn't come up there are no codes posted.

My name is Mike

These are a couple of my many rides:

throttle cable probably needs adjusting,
my buddy had same issue on his 2016 sportman 1000 xp. His started doing it a 500 miles on quad.
Would start good, ride 500 feet and start cutting out, shut it off, wait a bit, restart, good for 500 and cut out, but it would idle ok.

My 15 was overheating. When temps were approaching 90's I could watch my fan cut out (relocated radiator). The fan pigtail and motor were hotter than hell. Check to see if the fan is running when it cuts out.

I had the same problem last fall (Limp mode) .Temps were pushing 90. I would get anywhere from 20 foot to 2 miles and it would go to limp mode. Unfortunately it was a H&M trip and I ended up coming home. Took it to my dealer and they couldn't duplicate it.Road all winter without an issue. Then a month ago on a NY trip ,I got to the house ( 4 hour drive, cold and damp)I got unloaded off the bed of the truck, and it started the limp mode again. Weather it was just chance or it was the problem but turning off the 4X4 switch made it stop doing it. Turned the switch on and it went to limp. Did this a few times and it seemed to be the problem. The next morning everything was fine

Duse, for your issue with 4X4 I would try changing out your AWD relay if it happens again. I had problems where my machine would turn off and just not start and it was that relay. It was very intermittent. Only reason I was able to track it down was seeing the code on the touch screen being a driver circuit fault. I ended up frying a majority of my relays because my regulator was overcharging the system.
