Ordering air box, front gear box, front axles and the shaft today. Still looking for a clutch cover. Waiting for a friend to come back to town and we are going to pull the clutch (he has the puller tool) and clean it up the rest of the way.

If you are looking for new, then any of the suppliers will do. If you want used parts, try Powersports Nation. They are a seller on Ebay and have a web site so you can request parts too. I have gotten a few things from them and I have had no issues at all. Description of the parts are pretty basic: Good usable part....But I have found that they are exactly that.

Mine: 2018 Sportsman 850SP - 26" Bear Claw HTRs on OEM steel wheels(I really don't like the Aluminum ones)
Polaris Hand warmers, Mirrors.
Hers: 2019 Sportsman 450. 26" Bear Claw HTRs on Moose 427X Wheels.

2007 Sportsman 500 EFI, Polaris Winch, 25" Bear Claws QSC Clutch Kit, Hand Warmers
2001 Magnum 325 MOSE 12" rear wheel conversion. 25" Sedona Coyote tires
2017 Polaris Ranger 1000XP - Roof and front glass
2018 Kawasaki KLR650
2001 Magnum 325 Warn winch and Moose 60" plow-Sent to Daughter and Son-In-Law since his blew up
SOLD 2004 Sportsman 600 Twin

Here's one that'll work for ya. It's a little rough but cheap.

I saw similar ones for the 99 models but wasn't sure if they'd fit with the 98 model, different part #s unless there's a modification to make them work

You originally posted you were working on a 2000 Sportsman!
If you're looking for parts for something else then you'd have to search for that.
98 is a whole different animal on several parts.

Ok I'm having issues finding parts for this thing.
When looking at partzilla, there is like 6 or 7 different sportsman 500 models and some of them use different parts than the others. I found a clutch cover and it says it fits 4 of the models, but not the others. How do I know which model I have?
W98CH50AD, W98CH50AE are two examples of the models.

What machine EXACTLY do you have?...2000...98...99??
The 10th digit of the VIN tells you the year. You can run the VIN at Polaris or other sites to get details of your particular machine.
Many times the different model number types you refer to are only color schemes and/or accessory packages and the basic machine is the same. Other times there are significant changes during the model year.
Often times a part number change simply means that there is an updated part or some other small change but either number will fit/work.
You need to use the Polaris catalog to compare parts and numbers to determine fit and then order what you need.

Here's the link.

It is a 1998 per the VIN number. I just wasn't sure on the parts. I found a clutch cover for a 99 Sportsman 335, looking at the schematic for that machine it shows it'll fit several 1998 sportsman 500's so I went to the 1998 sportsman 500 and clicked the first model and the part wasn't there. Part numbers 5433540 and 5433542. Not sure if they are interchangeable or not, which is why I'm trying to determine the actual model. On the 5433540 it shows the sportsman 500 from 98 being compatible but on 5433542 it shows nothing about the sportsman 335
