  1. 2005 Sportsman 700 EFI

    ATV General Discussion
I would guess a bad relay. They are the 1" black cubes near the steering stem under the "hood." Clean the contacts and if that doesn't work, an automotive electrical (not electronics) shop can usually test it. There is no fuel pressure sensor on the fuel system. The regulator just maintains a...

  3. Electronic fuel injection 101

    ATV Repair and Maintenance
Sounds like it may be a relay. 1" cubes located along the stem under the "hood." Remove and clean the contacts. Next, have them tested at an automotive electrical (not electronics) shop if cleaning doesn't work. Bad ignition switch, bad ECU. Stew
  4. vdo gauge has moisture now wont work

    ATV Repair and Maintenance
I would do the same thing as with a cell phone. Bury it in a container full of uncooked rice for two or three days. The rice will suck any moisture out of it.

Sounds like it is running rich. Is your air filter clean?
  6. FIXED!!! 700 Sportsman EFI Spitting, Sputtering, Dying When Ridden Hard

    ATV Repair and Maintenance
You're right! It's been awhile and I was confusing the twin cylinder 700 with the single cylinder 500 (don't ask me how or why but it uses the MAP sensor to determine combustion or exhaust stroke).
  7. FIXED!!! 700 Sportsman EFI Spitting, Sputtering, Dying When Ridden Hard

    ATV Repair and Maintenance
Code 21 is loss of synchronization. On the first couple revolutions at startup, the computer uses t-bap to determine which stroke the cylinders are on. Probably a faulty t-bap harness.
  8. FIXED!!! 700 Sportsman EFI Spitting, Sputtering, Dying When Ridden Hard

    ATV Repair and Maintenance
Sorry for the delay. walE means wait. HOT when it's really not could be bad coolant temp sensor or wiring issue. FUEL means the fuel is critically low (or reading that way). Most likely a bad float mechanism or saturated float. Look for my post in how-to's on troubleshooting fuel pump...

Unhook the negative battery cable for a couple minutes. That should clear the codes. If they persist then maybe the t-bap sensor is bad or dirty. I have never been able to find the specs on t-bap.
  10. Water Pump Seal and Oil Seal Replacement on 2006 Sportsman 700 - Pics Inside

    Polaris ATV How-Tos
Yeah, I've never had good customer service from any of the online oem parts places. Good news about the seal holding though. Let's hope it lasts. You are right about the coolant. I have to add coolant 2-3 times before it gets full. Stew Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Your thoughts on UHMW skids

    ATV General Discussion
Alaskan boat owners trust their $40k+ river jet boats UHMW on the bottom of their boats. They skid across rocks, sand, and gravel at 30-40 mph without a scratch or dent on their aluminum hulls. I've thought about using it myself but it is very expensive and I have gotten by without it thus...

  16. Passenger seat For Polaris Touring

Take a look at the Kimpex Adventure XL trunk. I have one on my touring. More storage than the lounger and you can keep the factory seat. Stew Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Water Pump Seal and Oil Seal Replacement on 2006 Sportsman 700 - Pics Inside

    Polaris ATV How-Tos
You can tap a grease zerk into the weep hole and drill out the little ball and spring inside the zerk so there is just an open hole. Then put a piece of clear tubing on it and either let it hang just below the frame or run it all the way to a higher place like where the air intakes are. I...
  18. Water Pump Seal and Oil Seal Replacement on 2006 Sportsman 700 - Pics Inside

    Polaris ATV How-Tos
The shaft should be smooth and clean. Not cleaning the shaft off may have caused it to fail quickly. It's also possible you may have had a little gunk oil inside the cavity of the weep hole that the water is washing out. Give it another ride and see what happens. Stew Sent from my iPhone...
  19. Error codes 41 and 45 on Sportsman 800

    ATV Repair and Maintenance
FOund teh manual. One relay is for the EFI (including pump), the other is for the fan, which point to both your issues. I would start by cleaning the contacts and sockets. They tend to get wet and might be corroded. These relays, located next to the ECU, assist with component operation such...
  20. Error codes 41 and 45 on Sportsman 800

    ATV Repair and Maintenance
There should be one right beside it but I don't have access to what its function is. Might cause a problem in a different area. You can take the relays to a auto electric (not electronics) shop and have them tested, usually for free. Stew
