  1. Exhaust wrap

    ATV Performance Modifications
My '08 800 is a blast to ride. I absolutely love it, however, the heat coming off of the exhaust is insane. It's not melting plastic but it is definitely hotter on the exhaust side of the machine. Would it hurt anything to wrap at least the front part of the exhaust in "header tape?" I'm not...
  2. Help with rear suspension!!!

    ATV Performance Modifications
You may have something figured out by now but, I tried the EPI HD (I'm pretty sure that's what they were) springs and wasn't impressed. I'm about 320 and they still bottomed out on my 800. I ended up going with a set of Ranger springs. They are factory Polaris springs but a lot heavier due to...
  3. 2008 Sportsman 800 trans vs rear diff fluid

    ATV Oil, Lubrication & Filter
I'm sure this has been covered but I did a search and can't find what I'm looking for. I have an '08 Soortsman 800 and want to change the trans and rear fluid. I have the large service manual and it looks like I am getting mixed information from it as to what fluid to use. I've changed both...
  4. Fan issues

    Polaris Sportsman
I need help of the from the forum gods!! I'm riding at spearhead trails in Virginia for the first time and am having issues with my fan on my 2008 Sportsman 800 HO. Several times now the fan has quit working causing "hot" light on dash along with coolant overflow and tons of steaming. I...
  5. New electricial trick

    Polaris Sportsman
I have a 2008 sportsman 800. Today I went on a little ride with my daughter and at the furthest possible point from my house I stopped and turned the handlebars and it the gas and the whole thing died. Speedo, lights everything. I flipped the key off and checked the kill switch but it was...
  6. Larger gas tank

    Polaris Sportsman
I tried the search feature but didn't come up with anything that really helped. I have an 08 sportsman 800 with several aftermarket items that greatly affect the fuel mileage. I am lucky to get 50 miles to a tank. I was looking at the manual and noticed that the touring edition is a 6 gallon...
  7. extra gas or water cans

    Polaris Sportsman
I had a kolpin 4 gallon can on my machine. I took the flat mounting plates and welded them to the lock and ride rail on the front rack. I never used and never plan to use the rack so it wasn't a big deal. Plus I could cut off if needed in the future. I now have a rotopax pack but haven't gotten...
  8. 800 rear springs

    Polaris Sportsman
I had epi front springs on my 04 700 and absolutely hated them. They were too long and it made my strut top out on every bump. They were a terrible ride all around. Besides that I checked epi and can only find a 140 spring which I don't think will be enough.
  9. 800 rear springs

    Polaris Sportsman
I have an 08 sportsman 800. I weigh about 300 pounds and the poor machine squats quite a bit to the point that my tires are wearing uneven. I want to replace the rear springs with something heavier but would prefer to stay with polaris. I think from a little research that an 08 ranger 500...
  10. Warning!! Check your roll pins!!

    Polaris Sportsman
Here is a picture of the damage. You can see the pin broken off. I still need to get it out and install a grade 8 bolt.
  11. Warning!! Check your roll pins!!

    Polaris Sportsman
It's an 08 sportsman 800. But I would imagine it could happen to any machine with roll pins in the prop shafts.
  12. Warning!! Check your roll pins!!

    Polaris Sportsman
Just a fair warning for everyone!! I recently replaced my air temp sensor harness and figured I would check my fluids while I was at it. I noticed the rear of my transmission just above the rear prop shaft was stained and moist with oil. After further inspection I noticed that the roll pin...
