My 500 has a wierd electrical problem. The electrical system charges and maintains the engine operation. The 'auxillary' electrical system will power the tach BUT if I turn on the lights, the auxillary electrical system shuts off after 1-2 minute from when I turn on the lights. Then, if I turn off the lights, within 15 seconds the tach comes back to life. Then if I turn the lights back on, the lights and tach go out again. I can repeat the failure all day long.

Any idea on what would cause this?

Can you monitor your voltage while it is acting up? Sounds like you nay have something dragging the voltage down, thus blacking out the tach.

You have a tach? My '02 500 doesn't have a tach on it. Is this an aftermarket tach that you added?

I'd check for any shorted wiring in the lighting wiring, but one your circuit breakers may be going bad, remove the hood and you should see a couple of them, in black plastic pouches. If faulty ,they normally feel warm or you can hear them clicking.
