This machine started flashing HOT on the display and check engine even when it was cold when first started. At times it is normal. Also even when cold the cooling fan comes on.
Now it wont start and there is no spark.

Congratulations - you obviously have a late production model with DC ignition identified by the key switch having 7 wires instead of the 11 on the early production models with AC ignition

Now the problems may be related, but you have a charging/cooling system problem and an ignition system problem first, attack the ignition system problem and when ignition is restored, thoroughly test the charging system. It's possible the stator will need replaced, but it can't be properly tested until the engine is running

No the ignition is separate

To get spark, you need 12v on the red/wht wire #43 and you have to assure the blk wire #01 in not connected to ground

Wht/wht/red should have a 3 to 5 volt peak pulse coming from the pulse coil when the engine is cranking, brown is ground and wht/blu should have a appx. 100pv (peak volts) going to the coil.

The SSCB, control module or ECM (whatever you want to call it) is for charging the battery, operating the fan and hot lamp and providing protected (fused) outputs to peripheral components.

Troubleshoot the spark issue first and worry about the other stuff once the engine is running.
