New guy here I recently bought a 2004 red sportsman 500 with 900 miles and a Polaris plow and 2500lb winch for 2800 seemed like a good deal anyways my question is what size tires can I run without a lift? Was hoping 26 or 27" and what tires are good all around for snow(plowing) mud and trail? I'm going to be buying some kind of black aftermarket wheels and new tires for it soon.

I run 26" Kenda Bearclaws on two of my machines and they are great. They make my 2wd Yamaha go places that still impress me.

I bought 'Grim Reapers' in the same size as stock and the difference is amazing! These things dig in and bite so much better than the stockers its unbelievable.
I can go places in 2WD where I used to have to switch to AWD.

i am thinking the Kenda bear claws my self....I have mud lites on one of my machines....and really like them in snow....but the bear claws are very close to tread design...and cheaper....you can get either 6 or 8 ply versions....here is a place with them on sale now... ATV Tires - Motorcycle Superstore you can get all 4 tires for under 400.00 shipped..great deal...

that is a good deal i find the bearclaw has a better, flatter foot print and works better in snow and muskeg then the mud lite. ive had all three tires, have to double check but pretty sure the bear claw is also the heaviest of the three and you might notice some loss in low end power

I have had two 04 &1/2 Polaris SP 500's. If you have stock wheels like mentioned you cannot go wider than 8 inches unless the tire runs narrow like the STI Black Diamond XTR. This tire would fit using a 26x9R-12 and 26x11R-12. They run narrow.

Here is a link to them online:
