Hy guys,

I have a 1995 250 Trail Boss that I have recently rebuilt the motor. The bike was given to me as a basket case so I don't know how it ran before.

Problem is that the bike will start and idle and when throtled it will take very little of the gas only reving up to a couple hundred rpm. over idle. after that the more you press the throtle open the motor just bogs as if it is getting all air and no gas. I've been though the carb four times and doubt at this point that the problem is in there. Also I've tried to rotate the magnetic pick up to se if it could be a timing isue to no avial.

Any help here would be great.

Thanks, Ron.

No. I'll go out there and try that now. The guy at the Polaris shop told me to be sure the air box and snorkle are installed. Did that and it made no differents. By-passed the gas tank by putting a can of fuel at floor board height, also made no difference.

You will need a mighty vac or a hand pump with a gauge that goes to about 7 lbs. Flip the carb upside down and hook a fuel line to the gas inlet tube and the pump [make sure all gas is drained from carb before flipping upside down]. Pump up between 5 and 7 pounds you want it to hold at that pressure for at least 5 to 10 minutes. If it leaks down then you need to replace the needle valve or as some people call it the needle and seat. Good Luck!

follow your throttle cable down to the handle bars, you will find a wire conection, pull it apart and try you bike. it is the throttle override.
If you bike idles but won't rev up like there is a limiter, this is probably your problem

i dont think they did. i dont think the older machines had that, but im not totally sure. i could be wrong there. you do have a rev limitier that possibly could be bad. thats mounted up on the frame up front.

also have you checked you fuel pump lately. you might need a new diaphhragm and gasket set.

What would the rev limiter look like? i have had the fuel pump off and it appears fine, and i also think the diaphragm is fine but how would i know, just check for holes? its easy to get too since it's up front.

250 Trailboss

If I remember correctly, it is located near the base of the handle bars, near the head light. if you follow the throttle cable down, you will find the electrical connection , hopefully you will solve your reving issue.

As far as the issue with the bike not running except using the choke- that sounds like a fuel problem- have you checked the fuel filter?

good luck

ok, last night. started up with choke engage (same problem) verified it by doing it 10 times. then pulled the main plastic piece over the gas tank off. tried starting it again. started up and i used it for 45 minutes no issues. I need to plow the driveway so I never checked the fuel filter but it's almost like the air intake is covered to much or something. doesn't make sense still. I'll keep working on this, by running it everyday for 45 minutes to verify problem didn't come back. I rode it around with no ferring on it and it was fine. it can't be the ferring blocking the air intake but it worked so i'm happy,...................today.....................
