Go here http://parts.polarisind.com/Browse/Browse.asp build your quad. Then locate the part you need, look to the right of the part description and you will see the word "Usage". Click on that and it will show you a list of compatable models that use the same part. Buddy

Does a 1995 scrambler 400 two strole even have a mechanical water pimp seal? i looked up that polaris site and the diagram only shows two seals; 3084184 & 3084185, which it calls them both oil seals.. EAch aboit 10-12$. Then i looled up the usage chart for mechanical seal 3084837 and it went back to 1996 sportsman 500, but did not include my 1995 scrambler 400....what gives? Did a search cant find anything about a mechanical seal for mine???

You found the correct parts. The 400 is completely different than the 500(2 stroke vs 4 stroke). Go here Ohio Honda Yamaha Suzuki Kawasaki Polaris Victory Can-Am Sea-Doo Ski-Doo Aprilia Arctic Cat Kymco Honda East Toledo Maumee, OH 1-877-437-1631 they show them for about $12.00 total for both, w/$12.99 shipping. Don't forget to look at the gaskets and related parts on the same order. Or you could go here Polaris New ATV Water Pump Crankcase Crank Rebuild Kit Sportsman Scrambler | eBay and get everything except the crank seal and o-ring. The number you have is for the newer model 400 4 stroke engines.

I didn't mean to sound confusing, the mechanical seal #3084837 is for the 4 stroke. #3084184 & 3084185 are the correct seals for your 400 2 stroke.

There is a sleeve on the crank that the case seal rides on. The o-ring seals that sleeve to the crank. Go to the parts browser and look in the "Piston and Crankshaft" section. Item 10 is the o-ring and 11 is the sleeve.
