Having Voltage issues....self inflected....but still having issues.

I have 1996 Express 400 2 stroke with a over voltage issue.

I replaced the stator and the worked (for a while) and now I have the same overvoltage issue.

I have 20 volts at the battery.

I know I need a new battery but don't want to replace until I eliminate the voltage issue...don't want to fry a new battery.

Could the battery be the cause or should I look into the regulator. I have replaced this before, but I might have fried it..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Drew

OK, got it.
it was the battery.
I checked the ground from the circuit board to the frame and it was good.
I checked the motor to the frame and it was good.
I checked the ground from the battery and it was good.

I figured it was worth a try for replacing the battery.
I have a consent 13 to 14 volts at the battery.

On my way to Polaris to get new bulbs and it will be 100% again.

Thanks to all for the help!
