Is it comman for the brakes to freeze up in cold weather on this model of machine. mine did this morning, while pushing snow. first off the snow was not even close to being up to or in the calipers. the brake levers couldn't even move. is there something I could add to the brake fluid to help keep the lines from freezing?

Try to open the bleeder valves and see if they free up. If the brake locks up and you have to open the bleeder valve to get it to loosen, then most likely the brake line is physically failing somewhere and needs to be replaced.

What happens is the line disintegrates internally and while the master cylinder can force fluid past it, it is too constricted for the fluid to move backwards again so the caliper stays locked. Think of the damaged/failing brake line acting as a one way valve. As you apply the brakes fluid has enough pressure to force its way past the damaged/failing area of the brake line via the master cylinder, but there is not enough pressure to move backwards again so your brakes stay locked up.
