I have a 1998 Polaris Xplorer 400 2 stroke. I have an electric start but when I use it it makes a loud screaming noise (doesn't turn over). It happens on and off. Pull starter works great but takes a while to start. Need some help as I can't figure out if its the starter itself or a solenoid.

Needs a new starter Bendix at the least and a new starter motor and Bendix if the gear cut into the starter motor armature is damaged or worn out - typically just a new Bendix and maybe Bendix shaft bushings in the engine case and recoil starter cover if the bushings have an egg shaped hole.
