I've been trying to get my magnum running after sitting for a year and I can't get it to idle and if it does idle it dies after 20secs but I tried to rule out all the common suspects and I bought a new carb and fuel pump and I still can't get it to run I'm pretty new to carbureted engines but I have the service manual and I've got the Pilot scre turned out 2 1/2 turns and I can only get it to stay running with some throttle I'm stumped on the next step to take

Do you have 1/8 - 1/4” of play in the thumb throttle? There’s contacts in there and if the cable is misadjusted it will kill spark to save you if the carb gets stuck at wot. Is it a $30 Amazon carb? If so throw it out. They never work right. Did you rebuild or clean the old one?

The spec setting on the pilot screw is the initial setting - it's close enough to get the engine started and running well enough to run it about 20 minutes (not idling, but taken out and ridden) - with the engine hot, turn the fuel screw in or out until the engine is idling smoothly - since it's an air cooled engine, set a window fan or similar in front of it to move air across the engine while setting the idle - to finalize the fuel screw setting, from the smooth idling position setting, turn the fuel screw in 1/8 turn at a time pausing 5 to 10 seconds between changes - when the engine drops 50 rpm from the desired idle speed setting, turn the fuel screw out 1 full turn from the setting that caused the 50 rpm drop and it is done.

it is an amazon carb and i still have the old one ill try and clean it out and reassemble and how do i adjust the pilot screw without being able to fit a screwdriver in there or burning the crap out of my hand its too tight of a space to fit anything while the engine is running I've been having to rotate the carb to even adjust it

Motion Pro sells a right angle carb adjustment tool

It's $80 and most mechanics have one.
