Nope - wired completely differently - they may be able to be swapped, but not all the features of the 04 will be functional and the speed indication may be inaccurate. Also, there were differences between the early 2000 and late 2000 as well as differences between early 04 and late 04 models.
I also have a 2000 sportsman 500, when I got it, 4wheel wouldn’t work, I found out through research that the speedo fried when the previous owner tried to pull start it with a dead battery, apparently a real no-no. It fried a couple of resistors in the speedo which disabled 4wheel, an EE buddy replaced the resistors and restored 4 wheel drive
