Turning the gas off when done riding is not a temporary fix - it is supposed to be SOP - never leave the gas turned on when not in use. I turn the fuel off on all my toys even when just stopping for a breather. If I stop to pee I might leave it on, but if I'm stopping for a drink and a rest, I shut it off. Leaving the gas turned on is just asking for a flooded engine and contaminated oil.
