Hi everyone. I recently bought a 2001 Sportsman 500 Ducks Unlimited Special Edition from a guy and have been doing a lot of much-needed maintenance. The gear selector boot was pretty much non-existent so I took the thing apart, bought a new boot, new o-rings, new springs, and cleaned the box completely. I am reassembling it now but I cannot remember how the centering spring and centering dowel go---does the dowel slip into the hole first and then the spring on top of it, or does the spring go first and then the dowel, and then it's all compressed when you bolt the boot on?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

The centering spring (#23) doesn't have a dowel. The plastic sphere (#7) is what usually becomes worn and needs replaced to tighten everything back up.
