I have a 2001 Sportsman 90 (only one forward speed) that my son rides and it has been a pretty good machine so far. This year I have had some issues with it starting and running but cleaning and adjusting the carb with a new air filter took care of it.

Now though, it will start up and idle fine, but when you hit the throttle it will start to go and then big down, almost to the point of stalling ( and it will stall if you don't let off the throttle ). Pretty much sounds like its low on fuel, but it's not.

I did some searching and read that there's a good chance it may have a flat spotted clutch roller. Would this just start out of the blue as it ran great when it was out last week and the same for about 10 minutes today before it started acting like this?

Also, any steps to help me with the repair would be appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I pulled the carb off this morning and one of the jets was partially clogged. Cleaned it out and it seems to be running fine again. I guess we will have to wait and see for how long though.
