Hello, My name is Steve, thanks for allowing me to join this group, I have a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 700, when you turn the key the starter seems like its binding up, well it burned up the starter, like smoke coming off it burned up, so i changed the starter, the bendix, and the solenoid, still seems like its in a bind, but it started a few times, then fried the new starter as well. I started all this by doing the ignition upgrade, which came with new flywheel, i am at a loss here, does anybody have any ideas, please help.

There should be no reason to burn out the starter unless its not able to connect with the flywheel. One thing to check is that the flywheel is fully seated on the crank. If it is not then it may be rubbing on the cover plate causing it to bind.

shims are in right, thats why i cant understand where the bind was coming from, it has literally burned up 2 starters now, I am searching ground problems maybe, anybody ever heard of this before, that cover being too tight could cause it, I will look into that, just scared to put another starter on and risk burning it up, it looks like its putting pressure on the keyway holding the crank on, i let off the key and it kept cranking, and burned up before i could disconnect battery
