Hello All

I am new to ATV riding having just got my hands on a 2002 sportsman 4 x 4 earlier in the year. I was out for a (very short) run on the weekend and it appears as though I managed to seize the motor. My questions are....is it better to have it rebuilt or look for a used motor? If I do look for a used motor what years/models will fit?

I really enjoyed the limited time I had with the machine and would like to fix it if possible. Any assistance would be great!

Thanks and happy riding!

It all depends on what all is wrong with your motor. Buying a used one is a gamble as you don't know the history of it or it's internal condition any better than you did on the one you just bought. Rebuilding gives you the peace of mind to know what you have and how it has been taken are of. Rebuild will definitely cost more, but IMO is the better option if you plan to keep it for a long time.
