I just bought a 2002 Sportsman 700, the engine is tapping loud when I bought it. I am a experienced diesel mechanic so I know a little but this baffles me. I already remove clutch and that was not it, I was going to tear down but would rather just get a used engine because I am busy with work and school. I remove the valve cover and the tapping is not as loud. When I put valve cover back on I noticed that it pulses while running. I have read a lot of post where people say this is normal. I cant feel comfortable with this noise. Please help could it be waterpump or something

These hard a very hydraulic lifters like a chevy or ford and will go bad. I know had a clicking noise b that sounded like ujoints in drive line and only under acceleration. Flat camshaft! Do yourself a favor. If that's the problem, get a remanufacured engine. Not worth the hassle. I go one from power sports Nation.
