Just purchased a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 400 HO. Did some trail riding this weekend and found almost a 1/4" of oil in the air intake box and the air filter was soaked.

I did some looking on this forum and found many issues relating to the 850's and other XP's but not the 400.

Anyone have ideas or experience with this??

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like excessive crankcase pressure is blowing oil up from the breather hose, worn or cracked rings can do this, also could just be oil level in sump is too high to begin with. I would start with oil level chek then a compression check.

Thanks, Lancr.

The oil was at the full indicator but after being ridden for about an hour it was a quart low as it was in the air intake box.

If anyone has any other ideas I'd welcome them! I can find a lot of 850 issues on the forum and the PCV / breather and labyrinth plate appear to be the main culprit...just not a bunch of 400 info.
