i have a 2005 polaris 800 ,i just bought this quad, from day one after i bought it , it cranks over slow but always starts,i replaced battery but it made no differance still cranks over slow but always starts

Brushes in starter may be worn, D-B electric on ebay for a new starter

how woud i make sure it is starter ,

Well I'm not sure, looks easy enough on my '05 but...

I would start by removing and cleaning all of the high-current connections from battery-to-solenoid-to-starter.

Measure the voltage at the solenoid. Measure with no load (primary side) and with starter engaged (both primary and secondary).

Somebody here should be able to tell you what voltage drop is acceptable.
