I just picked up a new to me 2006 Sportsman 500ho EFI. Approx 190 hours on it. Looks to be in very good condition for the year.

The first thing I noticed was when you turn the key to the on (not start up) position the fuel pump runs constantly. Never shuts off until you turn the key off.

I have an EFI turbo 4-stroke snowmobile and the pump only runs for a couple of seconds, then shuts off.
I have to believe this 500ho would be similar.

Is the fuel pump supposed to run constantly without the atv being started?

If not, what would the fix be? Bad fuel pump, hose, pressure regulator, relay?
Can it be ridden long with this condition happening?

Hmm... Unless the pump has been hotwired by a PO to make it run continuously, that would be an ECU problem. The pump running a few seconds at key on is a programmed boot up function of the ECU. Has nothing to do with fuel pressure. Same as your sled.

Well, that may suck then.

Hoping for better news that that that's for sure.

May just need a reflash of the ECU or something. Might want to schedule a diagnostic checkup with a dealer that has the Polaris Digital Wrench program and equipment. It shouldn't hurt anything to run it that way so long as it runs ok. Just don't leave the key on unless the machine is running.

Yes thanks.
Removed front rack and front body panel and started looking everything over.

Certainly share tree mechanic kinda stuff but I've got it back to what I believe is stock.
