Hey all,

I bought a new to me bike last week - a 2006 Sportsman 800 X2. It has 26-inch tires on the front and back. Went for a nice trip in Southern Alberta last weekend and everything worked fine (light snow, mud / rocks). When we got home, I washed it down. Took a ton of mud and rock off the bike. Weird thing is - when I started my bike to put it away, it went into any gear, but didn't move very fast at all (like the clutch was slipping). I shut it off and let it sit for a minute and started it again. It did the same thing until I revved it up to 5k, then it sped up. Now it seems to work normally again. Thoughts?

Your drive belt got wet when you washed it.
Pull the red plug on the clutch cover and drain out any water. Start the machine, put it in neutral and rev it up several times to dry off the clutches. Replace the plug and you should be good to go. You have a leak somewhere that is letting water get into the clutch. Closely check the rubber boots that connect the intake and outlet ducts. If that all checks out, pull the clutch cover and inspect it and the giant O-ring that seals it.
